Up in the Air, Depending on Prayer

Herein the author begins by first introducing himself; then describing the adventures encountered after writing a book for his children recounting his Vietnam exploits to the decision to make the whole thing available to the general public as an eBook. Future ramblings will hover (pun intended) around his experiences as a helicopter pilot, while extending out to whatever suits his fancy as time goes by.

In the Beginning

Greetings! How does one begin a new blog? Is there a socially acceptable method for starting one of these things? I have no idea, so will begin with what I hope is a polite way by introducing myself and stating what I hope to accomplish here. So, let's get started--

My name is Dave Richardson. I was born and raised in Southern California. My lovely wife, Kaye, and I were High School sweethearts, dated through my college years, and married shortly after I joined the Air Force following college graduation.

We spent 24 years in the Air Force, with me flying mostly, and by choice, helicopters. Helicopters were and are a lot of fun, but not the best career advancement route. The Air Force simply does not understand or know what to with helicopters. Doesn't matter, I had a ball.

Along the way, we lived in 23 houses those 24 years and managed to sire 4 sons who are grown now. They are:
1) David; a Senior Systems Analyst with Countrywide Mortgage; married to Stephanie; no children; resides in California.
2) Craig; a retired Army helicopter pilot, currently Vice-President of KASA, Inc; married to Donna; 2 children--Bridgette (married) and Laura (High School Senior); resides in Kansas.
3) Eric; a wanna-be author; not married; resides in Indiana.
4) Mark; a Naval Administrative Specialist; married to Stacey; 2 children--Breanna (age 6) and Mark (age 5); stationed in Sicily.

After Air Force retirement, I taught 8th grade Math for 13 years before finally calling the whole thing quits. We now reside on the shore of a small private lake in Kansas and enjoy retired living.

Why am I doing this? I hope to publicize my web site where an eBook detailing my Vietnam experiences is available. Hope you drop by for a visit--http://www.vietnam-air-rescues.com/.

How did I name my blog? Pastor Carlson (my Pastor at Moreno Christian Assembly in Moreno Valley, California), coined the phrase, 'Up in the Air, Depending on Prayer' after hearing about some of my experiences.

I think this is enough for a start. In coming blogs, I will detail the history of the eBook as well as some of the frustrations of attempting to craft a web site when I had near zero knowledge of how or what to do.

Bye for now,

Dave
